Character Submission Guidelines for the Stellar Region RPG
General
Character's species, name, sex, race, employment (or lack thereof),
major affiliations, and titles and/or nicknames.
Physical description
Is your character tall, short, heavy, skinny, blonde, blue-haired,
or none of the above? Does she or he appear strong or weak, intimidating
or laughable, beautiful or ugly? Go into as much detail as you like, but
try to form a basic picture.
Personality
Describe, with reasonable brevity, your character's personality. This
is pretty self-explanatory. Consider: is this person quiet or loud, brilliant
or slow, cowardly or brave? How does this character act towards other people?
Is she or he species-prejudiced or do they work well with aliens? Are they
selfish or self-sacrificing? What hopes and dreams (or fears and nightmares)
fill your character's heart and mind? And so on. The important thing to
remember here is that we will hold you to whatever
you say about your character. You must play
this person. Therefore, if you announce that your space-pilot is a daredevil
risk-taker, then proceed to have her back out of any and every situation
that seems a little dangerous, you will be called on it by the Mediators.
History
Describe any important events in your character's past life. You can
use this section (in fact, should use this section) to explain things about
your character's personality, traits, and skills.
Traits
This is, very simply, inborn or deep-rooted things about your character
that will affect roleplaying. If they are exceptionally strong or extremely
intelligent, for example, these are traits. If your character has extremely
fragile health or is terribly clumsy, these are also traits. Other examples
might be extreme stubbornness or a weakness for gambling. If you want to
get really extreme, mental diseases should also be put in this catagory,
but it is important to remember to keep things
balanced. This is not a
superheroes game. Characters with exceptional strengths should have exceptional
weaknesses as well to keep them believable humanoids, and vice versa. Remember,
it is boring to play a perfect character, and incredibly
hard to play the reverse. Think carefully!
Skills
Anything your character has learned with their time in this galaxy,
from judo to diplomacy to computer engineering. Again, keep this balanced.
We're not going to believe your 15-year-old space waif is a computer programmer
with a black belt in karate, advanced piloting skills, and the ability
to "pick" any lock he wants to. Nor will we believe your 40-year-old hyblood
hasn't learned anything but sabotage.
We're also not going to believe a character who dropped out of high school
to become a corporate trucker could possibly
be a brilliant physicist unless you provide us with a really good explaination
for it. Be realistic. Be believable. It will help.
Resources
Anything the character can draw on if and when needed, from mommy's
multitrillion credit fortune to their old smuggling contacts on Babel.
Not to belabor the point, but be realistic, and also be thorough. We're
not going to let you suddenly declare a powerful government contact or
a really, really good friend who just happens to be fantastically rich
in the middle of the game....
Other
Anything else you'd like to tell us.
